AN UPDATE OF THE EDWARD R. MURROW COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION
March 2022
MisinfoDay is March 15, 2022
Murrow College and the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public are co-presenting MisinfoDay 2022 on March 15. MisinfoDay highlights the problems of mis- and disinformation, and provides middle school and high school students with the valuable skills needed to identify such content. Currently, there are 100 classrooms across Washington State registered to participate in this year’s virtual program.
Erica Austin will discuss health misinformation, and Jennifer Henrichsen will share how educators prepare future journalists for the current media landscape. Johanna Bejarano will provide students with a behind-the-scenes perspective of a professional journalist.
Introducing the Murrow Center for Student Success
Coaching Collaborative
Building on the success of virtual coaching, the Murrow Center for Student Success is launching the Coaching Collaborative as a way for Murrow students from all WSU campuses to have access to professional, one-on-one career coaching.
Each coach shares what they can commit each semester, from 3 to 5 sessions that can be 30 to 60 minutes in length over Zoom, as well as potential mentoring and coaching events throughout that academic year. These sessions are coordinated by Center staff and work within the coach’s schedule.
We are seeking to build a roster of available and interested coaches from a wide variety of professions, including journalism, news production, advertising, public relations, health communication, crisis communication, media entrepreneurship, as well as non-traditional communication-related careers. Join Sarah English, Murrow alumna, as a #CougsGive Cougar Ambassador!
“I am grateful to be able to support Murrow College as a Cougar Ambassador for #CougsGive on April 13, 2022. As an ambassador for WSU’s annual giving day, I love that I’m able to make a difference to ensure Murrow students continue to benefit from scholarships, professional development and access to cutting-edge technology. In addition, I get to support services such as NWPB that fulfill WSU’s land-grant mission and continue to enrich our community.
I invite you to join me as a Cougar Ambassador for Murrow College. Where will you make a difference? Go Murrow! Go Cougs!” - Sarah English, ‘94
