This Week at Faith Academy:
 March 27-April 1, 2017

We're so close to completing another school year! For some students, it's just the beginning of their primary education, and for others, it's nearing the end of their secondary. Important and prayerful decisions are being made for next steps, in both instances.

At Friday's Chapel, Faith Academy bible teacher Matt Netzer led a message to our secondary students on being who God calls us to be...now. He encouraged our students to pray,
"Lord, call me out to be the chosen generation. Choose me! Let me set an example in my purity, speech, love and conduct. Let it be me!"

I, too, pray this for every student at Faith Academy. Scripture tells us in 1 Timothy 4:12, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." Together, let's encourage all of our students, primary and secondary, to embrace this awesome truth and to be that chosen generation.

What an exciting future we have in our Faith Academy students!

In His Service and at yours,

Joe

Elementary & Junior High News
First Graders Learn Locally: Faith Academy 1st graders had an educational field trip to HEB, Marble Falls Public Library, then ate lunch and played at Johnson Park. While at HEB they learned about different foods. They were also able to be a cashier and scan some items! Then at the library, they were shown the correct way to take care of books, as well as, how to look for a book and check them out. “The students enjoyed visiting and learning from friends right here in Marble Falls. It was a fun day for everyone!” said Lisa Anderson, Faith Academy 1st grade teacher.

Congratulations, Dash Denton! Dash, a 5th grader at Faith Academy, placed 5th with his market goat in the Austin Livestock Show and went on to represent us at the livestock sale held today at the Bob Bullock Museum. Way to go, Dash!

Faith Academy Artists Enjoy a Sweet Treat!
This past Thursday, the artwork of eight Faith Academy students took a short one-day trip from the Burnet County Courthouse to Happy Scoops Ice Cream for a pop-up exhibit and ice cream party.

The art exhibited at Happy Scoops is part of an ongoing exhibition of work that is usually displayed in the main halls of the Burnet County Courthouse and is provided by Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade students from Burnet County. The installation was made possible by Judge James Oakley and Burnet County. There are four rotating exhibitions each year filled with artwork selected by art teachers from Burnet CISD, Marble Falls ISD, Faith Academy and homeschool students across the county.

The event at Happy Scoops was held to celebrate the artists for Youth Art Month, which is recognized nationally during the month of March. The City of Burnet and Burnet County both proclaimed March 2017 as Youth Art Month. David Brown, the owner of Happy Scoops, graciously hosted the artists’ reception, which allowed families to see the work and celebrate the artists. The art will be re-installed at the Burnet County Courthouse on Friday and will be viewable during business hours through the end of April.

"Community events like this are a great way to bring attention to the visual arts and to the importance of art education for every child at the local level,” said Burnet County Courthouse Art Exhibit coordinator Samantha Melvin. “There is nothing better than watching the joy on a child’s face when their work is recognized by others.”

Faith Academy Fourth Graders Find Success with Reflex Math

Faith Academy Fourth graders have found a new way to learn their math facts, and not only is it more fun than using traditional flashcards, but it is quickly paying big dividends.

Faith Academy mom Crystal Potts placed information about Reflex Math in the teachers’ lounge, and fourth grade math teacher Bonnie Brown decided to try out the free 30-day trial. The results have been amazing. In the last 30 days, the fourth grade math students have collectively completed 45,000 math problems on Reflex Math. In just the first two weeks on the program, they were also able to shave 2 ½ minutes off of their group time for completing 100 multiplication facts. Mrs. Brown expects to see even greater gains moving forward.

“The students really needed more math facts practice than they had been getting,” said Mrs. Brown. “We all know how dull the math flashcards can be for most students, so I figured Reflex Math was worth a try. I am amazed with how well the program has worked and am super proud of all of the students’ hard work.”

You can find more information about Reflex Math at reflexmath.com.

High School News

Faith Academy Chapel: "Lord, call me out to be the chosen generation. Choose me! Let me set an example in my purity, speech, love and conduct. Let it be me!"

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

Thank you, Mr. Netzer, for a super meaningful Chapel sermon!

The Lady Flames Softball team was victorious over Brentwood with a final score of 17-2! GREAT JOB! "This is a very good start to district. It has also been reported that the Lady Flames have been ranked 5th in TAPPS 4A State. We're very excited!" said Coach Bobby Tipps.

Juniors Visit National Museum of the Pacific War: The Faith Academy junior history class spent the day at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, which is the only institution in the continental United States exclusively dedicated to the WWII Pacific Theater.  While visiting the museum, the students were educated about the soldier-level equipment and fighting techniques. They were also given an exclusive ride on a WWII vehicle called "a Half-track." The trip culminated with a tour of the iconic museum.

“It was an honor, privilege and pleasure to take my junior U.S. History class to the historic National Museum of the Pacific War,” said Michael Williams, retired Lt. Colonial US Army and Faith Academy 11th grade US History teacher. “These young men and women have received an extensive education on ‘The Greatest Generation’ and their contribution to the world during WWII. They have learned through a variety of methods, including textbook readings, video clips, special team exercises and projects, the building of the D-Day Invasion mega-diorama, hosting a guest speaker to our classroom and capped-off by a visit to one of the best, most interactive WWII museums in the country.”

Sophomore and Junior Students and Parents:  If you have not set up a meeting with Mrs. Poage to go over your PSAT results, please email her at npoagefamf@gmail.com to schedule an appointment.  This is a good opportunity to see your scores and to find ways to improve your PSAT and SAT scores for future testing.  We will also look at our wonderful college planning tool called Naviance that is free to all Faith Academy students.
