This Week at Faith Academy:
 February 27 - March 4, 2017

CONGRATULATIONS to our Lady Flames!!! Just by making it to the TAPPS 4A State Championships you have proven what a great team you are, and that your hard work and dedication is what helped to get you there!

Registration for 2017-2018 is under way! It is hard to believe how fast time goes by, but here we are already preparing for next school year. Of course we still have plenty of time left this school year to see how God is continuing to bless Faith Academy! We are always amazed to see how our students are growing in their faith, excelling in their studies, and making an impact on and off our campus. Keep up the great work!

In His Service and at yours,

Joe

Know. Grow. Go.

Elementary & Junior High News

Faith Academy Students Shine at Elementary Academic Showcase!  Thursday evening Faith Academy elementary students got an opportunity to show off all of their hard work during their academic showcase. The evening began with performances by the Sparklers, the Musical Theater classes, and the first grade class, who recited the 20 Bible memory verses they have learned so far this year.

Parents then toured classrooms filled with the students’ best work from throughout the school year. Exhibits included dioramas, artwork, class projects, and a variety of other student masterpieces.

While parents perused the students’ work, the students enjoyed free popcorn that was provided as part of the “A Night at the Movies” theme. The students also collected autographs in order to participate in a drawing for a $15 gift card to Show Biz Cinema, which was won by Claire Poage.

The evening concluded with an awards ceremony for winners of the ACSI Math Olympics and the ACSI Spelling Bee. Parents and students alike considered the night a big hit.

“The academic showcase is a night for our parents to see their child(ren) shine. I’m extremely proud of our students’ hard work, our teachers’ dedication, and our staff pulling together to make the night a great success,” said Academic Supervisor Royann Williams.

Math Olympics Regional Competition: There were 18 schools represented from a 400 mile radius.  Students competed at the classroom level first.  Then their tests were sent off to district and the top 25% qualified for the Math Olympics regional competition.  Each student was awarded a rating based on their score at regionals: superior, excellent, or good.  Then the top 5 places in each category were recognized and awarded. I will send a picture in a few minutes.

Faith Academy Tennis Begins Season: Last week the Faith Academy Tennis Team opened their season with matches against San Marcos Baptist Academy. This year’s varsity team includes:
  • Christian Wilcox
  • Allison Stallard
  • Karson Cain
  • Nikki Salinas
  • Kiley Magerkurth
  • Deanna Crawford
  • Christian Glosson
  • Travis Melton
When asked about her expectations of the varsity team, coach Michelle Stallard said, “I am really excited about the team this year. We have 5 freshman girls and 2 sophomores and 1 junior so we are a young team. We have moved up to 4 A so we are looking forward to a challenging year. We have so much room to improve and it will be exciting to see the competition in 4 A. Everyone seems to be playing well so far and we will only improve as the year goes on. I expect a great year overall this year.”

There is a great deal of anticipation about what these teams might be able to accomplish this year. "Our team did very well against SMA,” said Coach Stallard. “We've got some good competition ahead of us so I'm expecting my players to work hard on their game and stay focused over the season. Very proud of both my squads this year."

Faith Academy Baseball Launches into New Season: As Faith Academy Baseball enters its third season, they are proud to announce that they will be fielding both a varsity and junior varsity team this year thanks to the popularity and success of the program. Not only is the baseball program expanding, but Head Coach Jim Richardson also believes this is his best team yet.

Though his new team is loaded with talent, Coach Richardson acknowledges that the road to a championship will be challenging.

“Unfortunately, we are in a different district due to Faith Academy moving up to 4A,” said Richardson. “I would say we are in one of the toughest district's in the state. In the last 4 years a team in our new district has either won state or lost in the semi-finals. Our goal is to make the playoffs. With that being said, I would like to go undefeated and win state.”

In addition to a run at the championship, Coach Richardson has set his sights on another goal.

“I coach all types to be successful in life off the field,” said Richardson. “Today they are baseball players, but later on they will be men. My hope is that through both the accomplishments and the adversities we may face as a team, they will see that Jesus is the best foundation to help them be successful in life. Hopefully they can have fun and play a little baseball while they are at it.”

The Flames varsity and junior varsity squads faced off against each other for their opening game. Their regular season will begin with a home game on Tuesday, February 28th where they will take on Keystone School.

The team is also selling raffle tickets for four tickets to the Rangers vs. Phillies game on May 16th. Please contact Susan Hoover at 512-755-3727 for more information.
