The Infinity Insider
September 2019

The Infinity Insider is a monthly newsletter to all members of the Infinity family. We hope it allows you to get to know us better and to assist with staying up-to-date with all of the excitement.

A Note From Coach Mark

And just like that, it's September. September is a month of transition as we add in additional responsibility of school, adjust to new sleeping patterns, and get closer to the launch of our Allstar Cheer competition season.

As we look ahead to the fall, we have a lot of new programs coming up at Infinity, so stay tuned. Some old favorites are back by popular demand - such as our monthly Nerf Night (September 6) and Cheer Crew (September 9-October 21).

We are very pleased with the progress our athletes have made this summer. Our tumbling athletes have been adding new skills and our cheer teams have already begun fullouts of their competition routines. We welcome ALL athletes, families and friends to join us for Infinity Premier Night, Saturday, October 26, where our Prep and Allstar teams, as well as several of our school cheer squads, will debut their competition routines. Specific performance times will follow in early October. (Also, as a reminder to Infinity cheer families, your athletes will be with us most of the day on Saturday (team photos and practice) as well as overnight (for team bonding)).

As a reminder, as much as I love to speak to each of you individually about anything/everything, I strive to spend as much time as possible designing lesson plans and in the gym with athletes. Please remember to call the gym (440) 933-4422 or send an email (mark@ictohio.com) if you have questions. If you are part of our cheer program and have an athlete on Icon, Envy, Unity, or Integrity, you have a direct connection and need to ask questions via your Team Mom (see August newsletter). We really appreciate you following this process.

Thanks!

Coach Mark

Back to School Healthy Tips
Summer days are over and slowly we’re starting to get back into the routine of school. For many of our athletes this means a demanding schedule packed with homework and practice. Keep them on track with a few of these healthy tips for back to school time.
  1. Keep a sleep routine. The most important healthy tip for all school age children is this: They have to sleep. Getting an adequate amount of sleep is crucial to a child’s performance at school and at practice. According to the National Sleep Foundation, school-aged children should get 9-11 hours of sleep per night. Teenagers should get 8-10. Children need sleep to support their development. Studies have shown that children who regularly get the recommended amount of sleep have better attention, memory skills, behavior and overall better mental and physical health.
  2. Keep a Schedule. Carve out a certain part of the day for homework, meals, practice and sleep. Creating a habit of this day-to-day routine will help your child stay focused. Homework time can be a struggle for both parent and child. Consider this: Some recent studies have shown that there is no benefit to homework for elementary-age children, and little for middle and high schoolers. Homework should be a positive learning time for children. Use stress-handling techniques like deep breathing or looking up a funny joke for your child if homework time becomes overwhelming for them.
  3. Keep healthy snacks. Many children are hungry after a long day of school and many have to go straight to practice. Fuel their bodies! Chips, sports drinks, or other sugar-loaded snacks will not give their body what it needs to perform. Consider a protein option like hard-boiled egg, grilled chicken, tuna salad or cheese. Carbs like fruit will give them energy for the practice ahead. Packing lunches with good choices is also crucial to a successful school year. As a good rule of thumb: anything packaged from the center aisles of the grocery store are generally providing no nutrients for your child. Try veggies with hummus or ranch and pick from many fruit choices!
