A Note From Coach Mark

Happy Holidays!

The holidays are here, the snow is on the ground, and we are officially in the middle of a wonderful yet extremely hectic time of the year. The energy and the buzz of the season can be felt throughout the gym and the lobby.

Cheer Season 10 is off to the strongest start to ANY Infinity season thus far. Our Allstar and Prep teams looked GREAT at their first competitions in November! In fact, Unity and Icon scored within the top three D2 teams in the entire competition, which earned Wild Card bids for D2 Summit. We are still asking ourselves, did that really happen? But there's no rest and an entire comp season ahead as we prepare for our next Allstar competition today in Columbus!!

We understand this time of the year brings extra conflicts with school music concerts, holiday parties, etc. Please be sure to provide sufficient notice to Infinity if your athlete will be missing from class or practice. For our tumbling athletes, please notify the front desk of your absence and schedule a make-up. (Make-up tumbling classes do not expire.) For our cheer athletes, please email me at least two weeks prior if you need to use one of your three missed practices. As a reminder, practices are mandatory during competition weeks.

We'd like to take a minute to thank all of our athletes and families for your support this year. We are proud of the growing Infinity family and wish all of you a wonderful holiday season with family and friends.

Infinity Closed for ALL Classes
During periods of bad weather, Infinity does NOT follow the school closing schedule and makes the decision to close based on many factors.

To check to see if we are closed, visit the News Channel 5 webpage where they list School Closings. We will be listed as "Infinity, closed for evening classes".

A Nutrition Tip from Wellness Babe...

It's been a long practice, you worked hard and you're looking forward to that freezing winter air to cool you down. No need for a jacket or pants, it will feel good, right?

Well, you may want to think twice before you walk outside with your bare skin exposed. As an athlete, during practice your body requires additional fluids to stay hydrated. But your body will try to get rid of that fluid when you walk outside with bare skin exposed. You'll start to shiver. This is your body's way of trying to warm up. Exposure to cold reduces blood flow to the skin's surface which also decreased the overall volume that our body can hold. Your body responds by ditching liquid. This is the opposite of what your body needs right after a long training session.

So make your mom (and your coaches) happy, and just take the extra 30 seconds to put on a coat and pants after practice!

Attention Cheer Families:
The Annual Cheer Bowling Party will be held on Wednesday, December 19 from 7pm-9pm at Spevock's Nautical Lanes in Avon Lake.

Cost is $20,00/athlete and includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza and pop. Please RSVP and pay at the front desk before Wednesday, December 12. Cash only!

Two To Tuck
"Two To Tuck" is the name for two back handsprings into a back tuck all in one fluid motion. This is performed from a standing starting position. Check out our Senior Level 4 Team (Icon) to see this performed in a group.
Meet Miracle Little Man Luciano
Coach Kara and Matt's Miracle Son

Luciano is 16 months old!!

The statement above is enough to bring tears to Luchi's parents' eyes - heck, it brings tears to many of the Infinity family's eyes as well. In case you are not aware, Coach Kara suffered from childhood cancer and was told she could never have children. It was a miracle she became pregnant, and then a miracle both she and her son lived through the pregnancy. In order to have the best chance of saving both of their lives, Luciano was born at 25 weeks, 6 days at only 1 lb. 5.5 oz. He spent the first 7 months of his life in the NICU at Fairview Hospital. (Yes, for 7 months Coach Kara left the gym after evening tumbling and practices and went straight to spending hours at the hospital.)

Kara and Matt were meant to be parents!! Even though neither of them had any experience with children, let alone children needing 24/7 care, they jumped in with both feet, including learning how to feed through a tube, check oxygen levels, etc. They are fantastic parents!

Luchi is an adorable, sweet 16-month old! He is currently working on weaning from his tube and only has oxygen at night when he is sleeping (just to help him grow). At his last pediatrician check-up he was ON THE GROWTH CHART, a major accomplishment - 1st percentile for his age and 6th percentile for his adjusted age.

Luchi LOVES his sister Maddie (chiweenie). She is his favorite thing to look at, laugh at and chase after. He also loves looking out the front window watching the cars go by and plays peekaboo in the curtains. He has figured out how to stand and walk along the couch but seems to have skipped learning to crawl. Luchi loves to go grocery shopping - he smiles non-stop in the cart. He'll be telling his mama what to buy in no time!

Please join us in wishing Luchi, Coach Kara and Matt a wonderful First Christmas at home!!

P.S. For anyone interested in donating to parents of NICU patients at Fairview Hospital, please see more information below.
