The Infinity Insider
September 2018

The Infinity Insider is a monthly newsletter to all members of the Infinity family. We hope it allows you to get to know us better and to assist with staying up-to-date with all of the excitement.

A Note From Coach Mark

We hope that our cheer families enjoyed a week off of practice to assist with transitioning back to school and catching up on sleep. All classes will resume on Tuesday, September 4. Expect our intensity to pick up as we have less than two months before we Premiere these routines to friends and family, and then take the competition floor shortly thereafter! Season 10 is going to be so exciting!!

With that said, I appreciate your patience waiting for the finalized 2018-19 competition schedule. I wish I could explain the dozens of puzzles that have to be pieced together in order to set the final schedule. Please know that I know how much coordinating/juggling needs to be done on your part with other family members and children once the schedule is set and will do my best to get it to all of you as soon as I can.

As we close out the warm weather and look ahead to the Fall, we would like to send a special shout-out to Deirde, our yoga instructor; and all of the local school cheer teams that made Infinity their home away from home this summer. We appreciate your support.

We hope everyone has a happy and safe Labor Day!!

REMINDER AS OF 8/26:
Cheer athletes start over with three (3) excused absences between August 26, 2018 until the end of the 2018-19 cheer season. All absences must be EMAILED to Coach Mark at mark@ictohio.com at least two (2) weeks prior. (Text messages, verbal notification, or voice messages at the gym are not a replacement for this.)

For your convenience, below is an exerpt from Commitment Packet:

Infinity will allow up to 3 valid absences from practices from August 26th 2018 through last competition 2019. If any athlete misses more than 3 practices, they will be removed from the team. It is our intention to schedule our practices so that they do not conflict with school cheerleading. Parents are asked to request school cheerleading schedules as far in advance as possible. We work hard to make it as easy as possible for our athletes to cheer at school and at Infinity Cheer & Tumbling. Each child is expected to attend each practice. Athletes missing any practice without a valid reason may be removed from the team immediately.

All practices regularly scheduled, or additional, the week of competition are ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY. Any athlete missing practice the week of competition will be removed from the competition that weekend or the following (coaches will decide on a case by case basis) Valid reason for missing practice is: Contagious Illness, with a doctor’s note.
A Nutrition Tip from Wellness Babe...
Its back to school time! Get yourself prepared to have a healthy school year with these tips:
  • Get a planner, or use the one supplied by your school. The purpose of a planner is to get organized. Write down cheer practice and tumbling class times for the month. Use it to remind yourself when a big test is coming up and what homework is due. Planning your schedule will help you to have a stress-free school year!
  • Sleep. Being well rested plays a huge roll in how your day goes. If you’re not well rested, you can’t expect to focus at school or give 100% at the gym. Did you know that sleeping helps you grow? Growth hormones are primarily released during deep sleep.  A good night’s sleep also helps to fight germs. While at rest, the body produces more cytokines, which are protein super heroes that help the body fight infection.
  • Pack a lunch (and a snack). Unfortunately, school lunches are not usually nutritionally dense. Pack your own lunch each morning or the night before school. Aim to pack a good protein source like nuts or a hard-boiled egg and lots of raw fruits and veggies. Stay away from empty calories like goldfish or granola bars. The key to healthy eating is to reduce sugar intake and increase the things our body needs most like healthy fats and vitamins.

REQUEST FOR WHEELBARROW DONATIONS
It's that time of the year again when we look to build a wheelbarrow full of gift cards, coupons and corporate gifts to be raffled off in our annual Premiere Night raffle. This year we are replacing the "wheelbarrow" with a beverage cart. If you or someone you know has a small business and would like to reach our local families, please contact Kristin Dickerhoff (Sydney from Unity's mom) to arrange a donation.

Herkie vs Hurdler
Both the Herkie and the Hurdler are jumps used in cheerleading that are often confused.

In a Herkie, the athlete is facing forward and hits a T when in the air with one leg to the side and the other leg bent.

In a Hurdler, the athlete is facing sideways at a 45 degree angle and hits a touchdown motion in the air with one leg forward as if they are trying to kick themselves in the face, and the other goes back like they are kicking their bottom.
