For My Students
Squinting at whatever you are painting will help you see value relationships, but you can take this a bit further with software. Notanizer is an easy to use app available for both androids and iphones. It converts color photos to full grayscale images or posterized grayscale images with only a few values. It is very useful if you are having trouble seeing "the big shapes".

For me the computer and the phone are just extensions of my sketchbook. I use the computer a lot for analyzing images and trying out ideas; it saves time and paper. I am considering developing an online class on technology for artists. Anyone interested in this?
