New Version of an Old Painting

Looks like my next series of work will be on aging. The above work is based on something I actually saw while visiting my husband in the nursing home where he spent his last days. There was this woman sitting in a wheelchair with a huge baby doll on her lap, looking quite calm, but totally out of it. I did an earlier version of this work, shown below, but was never really happy with it.  Now that it's about 95% done, I am not really sure its an improvement.

Until recently, I always associated Jo Zider with clay works, but artists tend not to stay in the cubby holes we put them in. A case in point is this assemblage which was in the 2021 Big Show at Lawndale Art Center. You can see more of her work at
