Balance your Calories & Physical Activity in 2017

What is calorie balance? Calorie balance describes the balance of Calories In—the calories from foods and beverages you eat and drink each day, with Calories Out—the calories you burn through basic body functions and physical activity.  It’s important to find your balance. Below are strategies for successful calorie balance.
  • Build a healthy plate
    • Make half your plate fruits & vegetables each day
    • Choose non-fat or low-fat dairy products
    • Include lean protein sources
    •  Make half your grains whole grains
  • Decrease portion sizes
    • Eat and drink less, especially with high calories items
  • Limit empty calories
    • Choose foods and drinks with less solid fat and added sugars
  • Be active your way
    • Be active to maintain a healthy weight & prevent excess weight gain
  • Cook more often at home
    • Planning ahead can help you make better food choices.

Physical Activity helps to balance out your daily calorie balance. Regular physical activity can produce long term health benefits. People of all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities can benefit from being physically active. Enjoy physical activity often,  to get the greatest the health benefits.

Being physically active can help you:
* Increase your chances of living longer   * Move around more easily
* Feel better about yourself     * Have stronger muscles and bones
* Be with friends or meet new people       * Stay at or get to a healthy weight
* Decrease your chances of becoming depressed      * Sleep well at night
