Lovewell is Coming to Ohio

Do your students (age 13 – 18) want to be a part of an incredible theatre experience? Lovewell 2017 is coming to Columbus, Ohio this summer at Short North Stage!

What is Lovewell? Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts is a not-for-profit organization that brings students together with professional artists to conceive, create, compose, choreograph, write, design, produce and perform a full length, original musical in each workshop. That's right, students will be part of a collaboration where a brand new musical will be born while working with professionals who make their living in the arts.

Lovewell offers hands-on training, the opportunity for students to write their dream role, design their dream set and have their stories be told! Please read the attached brochure for more information. Scholarships are available.

Ready to Direct the 2018 All-Ohio Show?

We are currently accepting director applications for the 2018 All-Ohio show. The annual All-Ohio show brings together high school thespians from across the state of Ohio. This production intends to provide participating high school students with the experience of working on an advanced level of theatrical production. The All-Ohio show will open the State Thespian Conference in March 2018.

We are asking director applicants to submit up to three play titles along with vision statements (Why does this show excite you? Why would this show be be a stellar selection for the All-Ohio show?). The Educational Theatre Association has a no-censorship policy. That being said, we believe it is of utmost importance that the shows we produce allow for educational growth and are presented with class and tact. These shows should excite the students and should potentially be titles that aren’t typically done in their home high school setting. This year we are looking to produce a PG-13, PG or G rated production.

The All-Ohio Show will rehearse over three weekends: MLK Weekend, Presidents’ Weekend, and the weekend prior to the conference (exact dates on the following page). The director stipend is $1,000, paid in full at the State Thespian Conference on March 22, 2018. An All-Ohio director cannot be a current high school thespian troupe director. Please take the following into consideration when selecting titles: Set Requirements (a unit set or a set with limited wagons and movable parts is ideal); Cast Size (10+ actors are ideal, and the reality is there is a greater number of females who audition than males); and Message (we hope that a title with a relevant message to today’s youth will be presented).

Please email a resume, brief directorial biography, and proposals of up to three plays with vision statements to Luke Bovenizer by Friday, April 28, 2017. Please note that current troupe directors are not eligible.
