Go for the fun!

Last year, dealers spent a lot of time talking with one another. In fact, it’s one of the things they liked most about the CADA Annual Convention: Mingling with other dealers. Even free time was spent hanging out. Mike Dunlap, Schomp Automotive’s director of Business Development, said, “The underlying theme for me was that everyone was relaxed, and another surprise: WE hung out with each other. We didn’t go off on our own, but paired up with other attendees and had a night out eating, talking and listening to music.”

Go for the outstanding educational sessions — and the sponsors!
Mike Dunlap said, “I was surprised at how much of the information was relevant to our business.” And while it’s tough to top, this year, the educational component has been taken up a notch or two. First, Michael Hoffman kicks off the convention. The professional speaker has built a career on guiding leaders to manage in turbulent times.

Alan Powell, senior VP of Cox Automotive’s Clutch Technologies offers insight to understanding the innovation behind subscription — and the changes on the horizon for the automotive industry. You’ll discover ways subscription can create new revenue streams, enable better control of your assets and develop more engaged relationships. When you leave this session, you’ll walk away with a portfolio of subscription models, best practices for asset utilization and the top three early subscription learnings!

Keynote speaker Jason Stein, VP and Publisher of Automotive News, shares his insights about where the industry is, where it’s going and the changes we’re likely to see — and haven’t even thought about yet.

There are cutting-edge sponsors this year, too. One works with dealers to maximize service opportunities with recalls. Another has a great solution to integrate video into the service writing process. And another, thanks to the Warranty Reimbursement at Retail bill that was passed earlier this year — and went into effect October 1 — helps dealers get the most from manufacturers that the bill provides.

Go for the adventures!

This year, tours have been added, ranging from the relatively tame, yet extraordinarily breathtaking dinner sunset sail to horseback riding, canyon excursion and wildlife refuge kayak and hike to tours for the more adventurous, such as the ATV waterfall adventure, eco helicopter adventure, zipline and surf lessons. Surely in all that there’s something that’s just right for you. Click here for more information about the tours.
Go for the tax writeoff!

Last year, some people arrived early, while others stayed the rest of the week, at the CADA-negotiated hotel rate CADA for the convention. Take advantage of the same offer this year, by booking a few days ahead or after the convention — and enjoy the CADA-negotiated Annual Convention rate! What’s more, you can write off part of the trip!

And if you don’t have the time to make your reservations, call CADA’s Convention Concierge. We’ll register you for the conference, book your lodging and either invoice you or settle up with you on the call.

4 Simple rules to prevent cyber phishing attacks at your dealership

If you do business with other dealers or brokers on line, your dealership could fall prey to cyberphishing, where someone appears legit, but is actually scraping your database and all your customers’ sensitive information in the process. In fact, cyber phishing is run today by big business, not some random hacker; they’re masters of grabbing sensitive information from your database through e-mail.

That’s why auto dealerships across the country are falling prey to these aggressive cyber phishers. You see, once they have your data, they generally hold it for ransom; some dealers have paid $250,000 to get their data back. Ask any dealer that’s had to deal with it: If you’ve been hacked, it will bring your business to its knees.

It’s one of those quietly growing threats to auto dealerships; it’s something you don’t hear people talking about often. Yet it’s crippling. It’s also why CADA is hosting an important webinar tomorrow from 10 – 11:30 a.m., 4 Simple rules to prevent cyber phishing attacks at your dealership.

This webinar is designed for dealers, general managers, sales managers, controllers and CFOs. And because it IS a webinar, you might want your sales team to sit in on it, too. For more info on the webinar, click here.

Mastery of Finance for Auto Dealers & Key Leaders

Performance is measured on bottom-line results. You already know that. Yet everyone with financial line item responsibilities in a dealership doesn’t really understand how what they do affects your overall results. For example, do your line managers understand how much gross profit is being made in his or her department — to ensure the entire organization performs in a way that’s profitable?

For many, they know their margins, but not what that means to the dealership’s bottom line. Each department leader needs to understand why their margins are so important when they drive revenue at your dealership.

While many leaders with financial responsibilities don’t quite get that, they will, after attending the day-long workshop, Mastery of Finance for Auto Dealers & Key Leaders. During this workshop each key member of your leadership team will discover how they can make better overall decisions to ensure the dealership is profitable on a sustained basis, and how to improve profitability margins.

This workshop was offered first in June. Of the top three things some folks learned that day, comments include: Management of cash flow, business cycle. Management of three different balance sheets. KPI on cash flow statement. And Transactional accuracy, executive to metrics/measurements. And one of the attendee’s most-valuable part of the workshop was the breakdown of accounting for departments, which was valuable, “since DMS does so much in the background.”

If some of these phrases don’t make sense now, they will by the end of the workshop.

Don’t Let Your Business Go Up In Smoke

Fire Prevention Week – October 7-13, 2018

Every year, fires costs business owners billions of dollars—and that number doesn’t even begin to measure the impact fires have on the business itself and the families of employees who are injured or killed by the blaze.

National Fire Prevention Week, October 7-13, 2018, is a great reminder that preventing workplace fires is not something to be done yearly, monthly, or even weekly—it should be a daily activity. Investigations reveal that most business fires can be prevented if workers consistently pay attention to a few, very specific hazards. To help you and your employees make it home safely each day, your Federated Insurance team is excited to provide a customizable fire prevention checklist you can use to review your business’s fire prevention techniques. (The latest full version of Adobe Reader is required to open and use the customizable checklist.)

Made available to all association members through our partnership with Federated, the checklist helps you identify and implement high priority fire prevention practices that can significantly impact your business. It’s designed to also allow businesses to add checkpoints for the unique risks and exposures they face. Scan the QR code above or go to federatedinsurance.com to access the sample checklist and view a video that shows the reality of business fires and discusses the need to make fire safety everyone’s responsibility.

Federated clients can find more fire prevention resources by logging on to Federated’s Shield Network®, or contacting Federated’s Risk Management Resource Center at 1.888.333.4949 or riskmanagementmaterials@fedins.com. At Federated Insurance, It’s Our Business to Protect Yours®.
