The 12th Annual CADA Member Golf Event was a big hit! Check it out, below.
CADA 12th Annual Member Golf Event draws biggest crowd in years
The partly cloudy, cool weather yesterday morning yielded to sunny and warm day — perfect weather for the 12th Annual Member Golf Event on The Dunes at the Riverdale Golf Courses in Brighton. It was a great time for folks to get caught up with one another, take a few practice swings, relax on the patio and generally ease into the event. From there, a good time was had by all. Many thanks to our generous sponsors, who made this event possible!

Congressional delegation supports federal excise tax repeal

In June, CADA staff joined the American Truck Dealers (a division of NADA) on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC to advocate for a repeal of the century-old federal excise tax on heavy trucks. This fly-in is the equivalent of CADA’s Project DC in September.

The excise tax levied an additional 12 percent of the purchase price of a new heavy-duty truck. In many instances, this tax could equal up to $22,000 per vehicle. In conjunction with a recent emissions mandate, which equaled approximately an additional $40,000, the impact was an anchor to the trucking industry’s growth.

Since the tax was originally designed to fund the U.S. military’s war effort in World War I — a purpose that was accomplished nearly 100 years ago — the legislation in the Congress urges Washington to end it. This repeal would be a great benefit to the 7.4 million jobs nationwide that are supported by the trucking industry.

The repeal bill, numbered S. 3052 in the Senate, was introduced by Colorado’s own Senator Corey Gardner. Its companion bill in the House is numbered H.R. 2946. In the days following legislative meetings with the Colorado delegation, Congressmen Doug Lamborn and Mike Coffman both agreed to co-sponsor the House version.

CADA would like to recognize and express our appreciation to Congressmen Lamborn and Coffman for their support of Colorado’s trucking industry.

New leadership at Motor Vehicle Dealer Board

Three new members were sworn in to the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board last week:
  • Fletcher Flower now represents new motor vehicle dealers
  • Michael Widhalm represents used motor vehicle dealers
  • Matthew Porter represents the public.
At the July 17 meeting, the board held its own nomination for new leadership. By unanimous vote, Steve Perkins of Centennial Leasing & Sales in Englewood was elected the Chairman of the Board for the session beginning in July 2018. Lucky Heggs of EKS&H was elected first Vice Chairman, and Ramona Graves Bode of J Bode Used Cars in Aurora was elected second Vice Chairman.

The board also discussed its plan for rulemaking this year and a review of a full 20 percent of its existing rules. The first stakeholder meeting will take place next week to weigh options for a more detailed hearing process before the Auto Industry Division. CADA will keep you updated on any compelling developments as we move forward with this process.
