  • Rory McIlroy isn't doing himself any favors with the heads of the upcoming major championships, saying this week, "The Masters has now become the biggest golf tournament in the world and I'm comfortable saying that. I don't care about the U.S. Open or The Open, it is the biggest golf tournament in the world, the most amount of eyeballs, the most amount of hype, everything is at Augusta. For me it's the most special tournament that we play and it's the one everyone desperately wants to win." The statement seems like one Team Rory will be backpedaling from in the coming days considering the backlash he will most likely get from across the pond, but what I don't get is the reasoning for it. If he believes it that's fine, he can think one major is more important that the others, but to say you don't care about the two oldest majors seems shortsighted, especially considering the reach Rory has in this current professional golf spotlight. And what if he goes on to win at Shinnecock or Carnoustie in the next couple of months ... how real will those smiles and comments seem after this quote? Strange stuff from one of the fan favorites (and media favorites) on the PGA Tour.
  • Justin Thomas could be world No. 1 this week and he doesn't even need to win, just finish in a T-12 or better.
  • Golfweek's Forecaddie reports that Augusta National appears to have started work on their fifth hole and also plan to plant an absurd number of trees after the move of Berckmans Road.
  • The 2018 NCAA Division I men’s golf regional fields are out, with Oklahoma State landing the overall No. 1 seed.
  • A reminder, I'm hosting PGA Tour Live this week and we have some heavy hitters in our featured groups. By the time you're reading this I'll probably be on a coffee #3 or so and golf will be going, so come join us!

Old Golf Shots That Never Get Old
It was in 2012 when a shaggier Rickie Fowler won his first ever PGA Tour event, doing so on his first playoff hole against D.A. Points and Mr. Rory McIlroy. Fowler from 132 yards hit the shot of his career to that point, taking on that nasty flag on the 18th and setting up a short birdie effort for the victory.
