  • Well, here we are. One round to go in this crazy Masters with Patrick Reed trying to snag a first major championship and Rory McIlroy trying to chase him down. Not a ton up for grabs except the career Grand Slam for Rory and a ton of scoring records for Reed. It Patrick fires a round of 68 tomorrow he will tie the Masters scoring record set by Tiger Woods in 1997 and tied by Jordan Spieth in 2015. If he goes lower than that, he will own the all-time lowest score to ever win at Augusta National. Even if he can't get there, a round of 69 will put Reed alone by himself as the only player to ever fire four sub-70 rounds around Augusta National. So yeah, just history for both. That's it.
  • Kevin Van Valkenburg wrote one of my favorite pieces of the week about Rory and how the failures of 2011 helped mold him into the man he is today. Alan Shipnuck talked to the Masters-less elite of Ernie Els, Greg Norman and Johnny Miller, hinting at the importance of a nearly-30 year old McIlroy finally closing the deal before him failing to snag a green jacket becomes a bigger storyline than it should be.
  • If you wanted an added storyline to Sunday, prepare to see Reed in something other than the red he has rocked over the years to imitate his idol Tiger Woods. Golfweek's Forecaddie with the details. For an extremely superstitious guy like Reed, this seems like a miscalculation before it even starts.
  • VIDEOS: Phil Mickelson with the brutal start to his third round, making a triple-bogey at the first that included this whiff from the trees. Of course, you can't give the bad from Phil without giving some good, like this driver off the deck on the par-5 8th to set up an eagle and get his round back on track.
  • Cool story here of Bernhard Langer helping Doug Ghim and his father out by raking a bunker himself in the third round. Ghim added another eagle and those infamous crystal goblets to his growing FedEx shipment, making it three eagles on the week and six goblets for the University of Texas senior.
  • An interesting read from Sam Weinman on the word "patrons" and why people feel the need to use it for this one week out of the year.
  • Brian Wacker on the Augusta airport and how private travel has changed the stress level of this week over the years.
  • Jeff Knox has become a known name amongst golf fans over the years, and Paul Casey, who played with the Augusta member on Saturday, called him "a proper stick" after flying around ANGC in less than four hours.

Worth watching this 10 minute video of that Rory-Reed Ryder Cup matchup in 2016 before the final round gets going.

Ep. 49 with Rory McIlroy

Just over a year ago Rory McIlroy jumped on The Clubhouse to discuss his golf game, his life and all that surrounds it. Considering he has a chance to do something only five golfers have ever done, I figured it was worth going back and checking this conversation with the guy chasing Reed come Sunday.
