Evensong & BYO Picnic

We will meet outdoors at church for Choral Evensong followed by a bring-your-own picnic dinner (and sweaters!). Evensong will begin at 5:30 p.m. and we will pray in family groups (since we will be outside, masks are not required, but please continue to practice social distancing). Bring your St. Dunstan's Psalter for Evensong, too (copies will be available at church).

Wednesday Evensong will take place each week in September. As October rolls around, we will continue it given interest and daylight!

Gift basket for the Markham twins

No, the twins have not arrived yet, but mom and dad are busily preparing for them, and we would like to help them get a bit ahead in their preparations! Instead of a basket of gifts post-delivery, the basket is now set in the Narthex and ready to be filled!

Gift suggestions for the twins and Eve: They are set on onesies, blankets, and disposable diapers for newborns but could use a size up from newborn. Gift certificates for their Baby List (see link) are always good because a few large items are still needed.  If you decide on a gift certificate, please drop the card/certificate in the basket. We are hoping for enough certificates to help purchase a couple of larger items still needed (Moses baskets and bouncer). Bedside snacks would be great, and wipes and creams free of fragrance and organic.

The twins are due October 20 but are expected earlier. As always, thank you for your love and generosity as we approach this joyous occasion!

Thank you to Jim Camblos for planning and implementing the front door project. The new doors are beautiful and sturdy enough to last decades! The doors were made out of mahogany and painted by Mill Cabinet Shop near Bridgewater. All the straps, pulls, and decorative lock were done by a blacksmith in Mt. Solon, Sullivan Machining. The hardware was powder coated by Shickle Corp. also in Bridgewater. Finally, the doors were hung and finished by Gary Dale, a carpenter from Crozet, VA. He will also make a threshold and a t-astragal which will go on in the next few weeks.

Saints Bio: Michaelmas

On the Feast of Michael and all Angels, popularly called Michaelmas, we give thanks for the many ways in which God’s loving care watches over us, both directly and indirectly, and we are reminded that the richness and variety of God’s creation far exceeds our knowledge of it. The Holy Scriptures often speak of created intelligences other than humans who worship God in heaven and act as His messengers and agents on earth. We are not told much about them, and it is not clear how much of what we are told is poetic. Jesus speaks of angels as rejoicing over penitent sinners (Lk 15:10). Elsewhere, in a statement that has been variously understood, he warns against misleading a child, because their angels behold the face of God. The order of Angels has always been understood as very much involved with the Communion of Saints and especially associated with our prayers, which was acknowledged in the mass of the 1549 Book of Common Prayer:

“Yet, we beseech thee to accept this our bounden duty and service, and command these our prayers and supplications, by the Ministry of thy holy Angels, to be brought up into thy holy Tabernacle before the sight of thy divine majesty; not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offenses, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, all honor and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen.”
