"I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."

– John 14:18

Dear Friends,

Pope Francis Home and School continues to serve Christ through our service to the children in the Volta Region. We are making steady progress on our fundraising to build a home for the children under the care of the Sisters of Mary. The grading of the property and installation of electricity are in progress. We are reviewing plans to begin our fish farm, and breeding rabbits for food is an additional priority. Local regulations and permits have been challenging, but we are excited about the potential for feeding the children with a local, long-term sustainable plan.

PFHS’ outreach program is celebrating its 4-year anniversary! Thanks to our many donors and sponsors, we have been helping children since the fall of 2014. Included in our works, we have fed, housed, educated, and provided medical care to dozens of children. Our outreach has helped children with HIV obtain the food they need to manage their illness. We are providing school fees for orphans, paying hospital bills for families with no means of support, and facilitating countless shipments of food and educational supplies from America.

Tina Tyler, a supporter of PFHS, just returned from Ghana and visited her sponsored child Justine, an HIV patient. A brief recap of Tina’s visit along with pictures of her time with Justine are included in this newsletter below.

On October 19, PFHS welcomes you to an evening of wine and fellowship in Naples with a mission update from a special guest speaker. Naples Wine Collection will be our host, and tickets are available for $25 per person. See below in the newsletter for additional information, and we hope you will be able to join us!

Additionally, as always, we wish to extend our deepest gratitude for our supporters, without whom none of our ongoing impact in Ghana would be possible. Your tax-deductible donations support our outreach efforts as well as our steady progress towards the ultimate goal of a full-service home and school for the children. We encourage you to share news of our work with friends and family you think may be interested. Donations are easily made through our website. Thank you for believing in the mission of PFHS!

God Bless,

Michael Barry

Tina’s Recent Visit

On my second trip to Ghana, I visited a little girl called Justine. She is six years-old and is HIV-positive, and has been in treatment since the age of two. Her mother died, but her father remarried; his new wife has two children. I went to see Justine in her village in the Volta Region, where there is no water or electricity. I was appalled at her living conditions but she has the loveliest smile on her face despite the hardships. I have been supporting her education, and recently have found out her stepmother doesn’t want her, so the Sister in charge of these HIV+ children is trying to find a boarding school for her. I pray she can place her in one soon.
