The Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey (PFANJ), International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), AFL-CIO, the statewide representative of career professional firefighters, emergency medical personnel and dispatchers, today announced its endorsement of Governor Phil Murphy for reelection.
The Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey praised Governor Murphy for signing into law the Tom Canzanella Presumptive Bill that protects first responders from various workplace illness and cancer, the Dominick Marino Enhanced Benefits for Surviving Spouses Bill, The “Bill Ricci” Bill which provides benefits and protections for those involved in the September 11th rescue and recovery efforts and the Workplace Democracy Enhancement Act which provides safeguards for unions in light of the Supreme Court Janus ruling.
“Governor Murphy has a deep respect for labor, and over the past 3+ years as our Governor he has demonstrated that respect repeatedly. From day one, the PFANJ has had a seat at the table with Governor Murphy and he has signed every bill we put on his desk, many of which provide significant benefits and safeguards for our members. Governor Murphy has also funded the pension system better than any other governor and these actions cannot be ignored. We look forward to continuing this relationship and working with him in the future,” said PFANJ President, Steve McConlogue.
“The PFANJ’s dedicated first responders are the heart of our communities and serve at the front lines every day keeping New Jersey safe,” said Governor Murphy. “Our partnership over the last three-plus years has been driven by our shared values of fair wages, strong benefits, and dignified retirement for all. I’m grateful for this endorsement and look forward to building on our accomplishments together.”
The Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey represents over 3,000 active professional firefighters, Dispatchers and EMS professionals in addition to thousands of retired members. The PFANJ is the state affiliate of the IAFF, a 330,000 member firefighter union that protects and advances the interests of career firefighters and fire-based EMS & paramedics in the U.S. and Canada.
