The CMDS Medialogue

Know the Power, Know the Media

Media and journalism are changing fast and so should the media research agenda. Power in the regulatory decision-making process, financing and public sphere: these issues should lead today's media research agenda. We at the Center for Media, Data and Society want to play a role in covering them. Read more about our future here.

Our Summer School 2017: Learn About Media Capture

The Center for Media, Data and Society's 2017 summer school, "Media Capture: The Relationship Between Power, Media Freedom and Advocacy" to be held at Central European University, Budapest, Hungary on 26 June to 7 July, 2017 will focus on the biggest challenge to media freedom and independent journalism today: the systemic political corruption in which private interests shape the decision-making process in state bodies and institutions. Read more about the application process here.
How Media in Austria and Hungary Covered the Refugee Crisis
The research initiated by CMDS and led by Vera Messing and Gabor Bernath investigates the media coverage in Hungary and Austria of three crucial events during the so called ‘refugee crisis’, which took place during summer-early autumn 2015, analysing how different media outlets framed events related to the refugee crisis; which actors were allowed to voice their experiences and opinions; and what visual and narrative representations shaped the coverage of the events. Who is Doing Podcasting in Academia
Academic podcasting is a new form of content creation, a medium for content dispersion and part of a movement that seeks to expand intellectual engagement. Moreover, podcasting in academia has the potential to foster new communities of practice, to open academic knowledge and change the way research is imagined. CMDS has already piloted a podcasting workshop this year at CEU and as a broader project, it maps various podcasting models, looking first at good practices and successful examples of podcasts across three themes: geographic, historic and disciplinary.
