St George's Day

What a fantastic turnout with Scout groups from across the District to parade to Daventry Country Park. The parade was led by Patrick Richardson and Georgina Miles who hold the Silver Wolf, the highest award gained by adults in Scouting. The parade ended where trees had previously been planted by all sections of Scouting as part of the Queens Jubilee Green Canopy initiative to mark the 70-year reign of our Queen.

Malcolm Ogle, Deputy Mayor for Daventry officially opened the canopy with a ribbon cut and thanked everyone for their dedication and hard work to make this happen. Chris Heaton-Harris MP also said a few words to congratulate everyone on a great success.

The young people had a fantastic time with various activities throughout the afternoon. These included a Viking re-enactment group and Archery among other activities run by each of the groups.

Northamptonshire Geocachers and members of the Daventry SASU had done all the hard groundwork the day before the tree planting, placing all the stakes in the ground ready for the trees to be planted.

Well done everyone on organising a different way to celebrate our Patron Saint.

Jubilee Tree Planting

On a Sunday morning, somewhere in Daventry Country Park, Scouts of all ages including family members came together armed with spades, trowels and wellington boots, to plant trees. The Queens Green Canopy Initiative was created to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and Scout Groups from all over the District came to help. Ashby Fields, 1st Long Buckby, 2nd Daventry, Bugbrooke and ESU Scavengers were there to plant 20 trees which will also formed part of the St George's day celebration.

Charlie, a Beaver Scout from Bugbrooke said "This has been really fun. I love learning new stuff and being outdoors"

Special mention to Ian McVeigh, Scout Leader from Ashby Fields and Mark Joiner who coordinated the event.

Well done everybody.
