OPEN Aresty Speaker, Pulitzer Prize winning author Gilbert King, kicked off the 2019/2020 season with a SOLD OUT event at Lynn Pippenger Hall. His presentation, Words Matter: Awakening Social Justice through Storytelling was followed by a enlightening discussion moderated by the Honorable Judge E. Williams of Florida's Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court.

Join us for an OPEN Conversation with Delaney Reynolds (19), college student and lead plaintiff in Reynolds Vs. State of Florida case. Called an “Eco Warrior” and one of the leading voices for the environment of her generation, this Marine Science major founded The Sink or Swim Project to educate and advocate for sea level rise and climate change solutions.
Following her presentation there will be a panel discussion with others activiely engaged in finding climate solutions in Florida, including the Sustainability Coordinator for the City of St. Petersburg - Alexandria Hancock.

At this year’s Initiative on Coastal Adaptation and Resilience (iCAR) Conference; Aresty Speaker Robert Meyer, co-author of The Ostrich Paradox, and co-director of the Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center, will help us understand why, as humans, we are so poor at dealing with risk.

The theme of the evening was breaking bread together with love and compassion. In unison with the St. Pete Iftar Committee and the City of St. Petersburg, OPEN joined an interfaith alliance and over 850 local community members for dinner and fellowship at the St. Pete Coliseum on May 29th, 2019.
