An important message to all Ottawa New Horizons Band members:
(Our apologies, the email sent earlier tonight had a link to the wrong by-laws document).
At 2:00 p.m. on Sunday October 15, at Woodroffe United Church, the ONHB will hold its first ever Annual General Meeting. This is a very important milestone in the history of the ONHB.
As you are probably aware, the ONHB has operated for the past nine years as a community outreach program of Dominion-Chalmers United Church. With the impending sale of D-C, we have had to move out from under its wing and become an entity on our own. We now operate as a federally registered not-for-profit corporation, with all the rights and obligations that entails. Three of those obligations are: the election of a board of directors to oversee the operations of the corporation; the approval of a set of by-laws for the corporation; and the appointment of a public accountant to review the records of the corporation. By law, these items must be addressed at an annual general meeting of the membership (AGM).
If you are a band member this term, you are a member of the corporation and have the right to vote on all resolutions at the AGM. Please consider attending the AGM next Sunday, and help the ONHB as it moves into this exciting next phase!
The agenda for this meeting can be found here, and the draft by-laws are here. These by-laws are very important – they determine how ONHB conducts itself for the foreseeable future, so you are encouraged to have a good look at them before the meeting.
Woodroffe United Church is at 207 Woodroffe Avenue, north of Carling. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday the 15th!
While your calendar is out, note this: The New Horizons Band of Northern New York, in Potsdam, N.Y., is hosting a one-day band camp and potluck dinner on Saturday, November 4. Save the date for this fun event, less than 2 hours from Ottawa. More information to come; is your passport ready?
