May 17 marks the annual International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. IDAHOT celebrates gender and sexual diversity and tackles stigma and discrimination against lesbian, gay, transgender and intersex people (LGBTI) around the world.
Seizing an unexpected opportunity resulted in an evening full of creativity at IDAHOT in Laos. More than fifty visitors gathered to see the shadow drama “Story of Kham” which was especially produced for IDAHOT. A huge victory for indigenous people in Kenya and beyond! The African Court of Human and Peoples Rights in Arusha issued a historic judgement in favour of the Ogiek community of Kenya - one of the last remaining forest-dwelling communities and among the most marginalised indigenous people in the country. Minority Rights Group, a Voice grantee, played an important role in this.
